About the Zoning Board
The Zoning Board of Appeals is comprised of five members, with staggered five-year terms of office. The ZBA is a quasi-judicial body given specific authority by state statute.
There are two types of appeals to the ZBA; those seeking an interpretation of the zoning law, and those requesting a variance from its provisions.
When hearing appeals requesting interpretations, the ZBA must review the local zoning law and apply that law to the case at hand. Each appeal must be viewed on a case-by-case basis in light of the local provisions.
